Landscaping businesses fail at pricing for the same reason every service business does: underestimating time, not accounting for burden and overhead, and competing on price instead of value. How Landscapers Should Quote Jobs
Two approaches work well depending on the service type:
- Time + materials with overhead markup — best for one-time projects (installs, renovations, cleanup). Quote a fixed price built from your actual costs.
- Per-service unit pricing — best for recurring maintenance (mowing, edging, fertilization). Set a firm price per visit or per season that covers your costs and profit.
The biggest mistake landscapers make is quoting recurring maintenance jobs without accounting for annual inflation in labor and fuel. Annual contracts should include a 3–5% escalator or a 30-day rate adjustment clause.
Mowing & Routine Maintenance Pricing
Mowing prices vary significantly by region, lot size, and terrain. Current market rates:

Planting Estimates
